Luxembourg’s coffee scene has changed enormously over the years. When I first moved here, finding a really good coffee wasn’t always easy. Today, we’re spoiled for choice.
There are serious specialty coffee shops, beautiful spaces for meeting a friend, neighbourhood cafés, places for breakfast or lunch and a few where a quick coffee can very easily turn into an entire afternoon.
This isn’t a ranking of the “best” coffee shops in Luxembourg City. Who am I to decide that? These are simply places I genuinely like and would happily recommend. Some are coffee-first. Others make the list because I love the entire experience.
These are the Luxembourg City cafés I think are worth knowing.
AUPA Specialty Coffee
GO FOR: Exceptional coffee, great people and a space you’ll want to stay in.
AUPA is one of my favourite recent additions to Luxembourg’s coffee scene.
The design first caught my attention, but it’s the combination of genuinely excellent coffee and incredibly friendly staff that keeps me coming back. It’s cool without trying too hard to be cool, which isn’t always an easy balance for a specialty coffee shop to get right.
There’s also an interesting story behind it. AUPA was founded by Enrique de Juan, a Michelin-trained chef who eventually turned his attention to specialty coffee. You can see that background in the attention given not just to the coffee, but to the food and the overall experience.
Even the name tells you something about the place. Aupa is a Spanish expression of encouragement and energy, something along the lines of “come on” or “let’s go.” That upbeat, welcoming spirit fits the café perfectly.
This is somewhere I’d happily send someone who is serious about coffee, but equally someone who just wants a great cup in a beautiful space with people who make you feel welcome.
CSL TIP: Not sure what to order? Ask the team. The staff are part of what makes this place so good.

The Little Bakeshop
GO FOR: Coffee and a cookie. Definitely the cookie.
The Little Bakeshop is one of those places where stopping for coffee inevitably involves something sweet.
The coffee is excellent, but let’s talk about the cookies. They are so good.
Everything is homemade, and the bakery serves cookies, cakes and other treats alongside its specialty coffee. It’s warm, welcoming and exactly the kind of place I love for an afternoon coffee when I have no intention of rushing anywhere.
Come for the coffee, have a cookie and don’t be surprised if you leave with something for later.
DON’T LEAVE WITHOUT: A cookie. Trust me.

Konrad Bouneweg
GO FOR: Coffee that accidentally turns into lunch and possibly cocktails.
Everyone in Luxembourg seems to know the original Konrad in the city centre, and for good reason. It’s a classic. But there’s something about the Bonnevoie location that I particularly love.
Konrad Bouneweg is cute, relaxed and exactly the kind of neighbourhood café where you can stop for coffee without necessarily knowing when you’re going to leave. Have the coffee. Absolutely have a slice of their famous carrot cake. Stay for lunch if you’re hungry. And if the afternoon happens to transition into cocktails, you’re already in the right place.
It’s less about grabbing a quick caffeine fix and more about settling in for a while, which is precisely why I like it.
MAKE AN AFTERNOON OF IT: Coffee → carrot cake → lunch → cocktails.
VISIT → 20 Rue du Verger, 2665 Luxembourg
Ready?!
GO FOR: A Luxembourg classic.
Ready?! has been part of Luxembourg’s café scene long enough to earn classic status.
The concept has always been a little different, bringing together coffee, food, bikes and a relaxed atmosphere that feels distinctly Ready?! rather than like another version of whatever café aesthetic happens to be trending.
It’s casual, friendly and the kind of place that works equally well for grabbing a coffee or sitting down for something to eat. New cafés will continue to open, but there’s something to be said for the places that have become part of Luxembourg life.

Curious Buds
GO FOR: Serious specialty coffee.
If the actual coffee is your priority, Curious Buds should be on your list.
Tucked away just off Avenue de la Porte-Neuve, the city-centre café works with specialty coffees from respected European roasters and is the kind of place where nobody will look confused if you start asking questions about beans, brewing methods or what they’re currently pouring.
There’s also equipment for home brewers and a coffee subscription for anyone whose interest goes well beyond an occasional cappuccino. Even if you aren’t a coffee expert, don’t be intimidated. Ask what’s good and let them point you in the right direction.
And yes, there are cookies here too.

Do for Love
GO FOR: Coffee, cake and minimalist design in the centre of town.
Do for Love is one of those cafés that immediately feels very city. Located on Boulevard Royal near Hamilius, it combines specialty coffee with a clean, minimalist space and a selection of sweet treats.
It’s particularly convenient if you’re shopping or meeting someone in the centre, but the coffee is good enough that it doesn’t need location alone to recommend it.
This is an easy one to keep in mind when you want somewhere central that still feels like a proper coffee stop rather than simply the nearest café.

Intense Coffee
GO FOR: Specialty coffee and vegan bites.
Intense has locations in Limpertsberg and Bonnevoie, making it a particularly useful one to know depending on which side of the city you find yourself on.
Coffee is at the heart of the concept, but there’s also a strong selection of house-made vegan food and plant-based options.
The interiors are clean and calm, and it works just as well for meeting someone as it does for stopping on your own.
I particularly like having cafés on this list that aren’t all concentrated in the city centre. Luxembourg’s neighbourhood coffee scene deserves some attention too.
Visit: 61 Av. Pasteur, 2311 (Limpertsberg) Luxembourg/ 1 rue Auguste Charles, 1326 (Bonnevoie) Luxembourg
Cereal Lovers
GO FOR: Coffee with a bagel
Sometimes you don’t just want coffee. If you’re like me, sometimes you need a bagel too, and this is my go-to spot when that craving hits.
Alongside specialty coffee, and a much-needed bagel, you’ll find breakfast and lunch options including bowls and plant-based choices, plus plenty of sweet things.
There’s also a serious coffee side to the business. Cereal Lovers runs barista training and hobby workshops for anyone interested in learning what actually goes into making a proper coffee at home.
BEST FOR: When you need a bagel!

Still on My Coffee List…
One of the best things about Luxembourg’s changing coffee scene is that there always seems to be somewhere new to try.
ZECA Specialty Coffee is currently on my list. I haven’t tried it yet, which means I’m not going to pretend to recommend it just because I’ve heard good things. But I will be visiting. I’ll report back once I’ve had the coffee.
