August is a month of wine. The old town is turned into a “wine village” where 20+ Franconia wine makes showcase their wines, ranging from Sylvaners to ice wines. In September, the town hosts the annual Reichstad-Festtage (Imperial City Festival) where people dress up in medieval costumes. The festival features markets, torchlight processions, music, a thunder cannon and fireworks, and a play called Der Meistertrunk (the Master Draught) which commemorates an event from 1631 involving a former mayor.
