Bellevigne Hotel Review: Why I Returned to This Beautiful Burgundy Hotel

I first stayed at Bellevigne just days after it opened, and while I loved the beautiful interiors, there were a few things that needed time to settle. A second visit to this charming hotel in Burgundy completely won me over.

If you’ve read my Burgundy travel guide, you might remember that I mentioned Bellevigne, a beautiful boutique hotel in the little village of Chambolle-Musigny. We first visited in 2024, during the hotel’s opening week. Although I immediately fell in love with the property itself, there were a few hiccups that made it clear they were still finding their feet. This Bellevigne hotel review is about our second stay, and why this time it completely won me over.

I always felt that Bellevigne had the potential to be something really special, so when we were planning another trip to Burgundy, I knew I wanted to give it a second try.

The hotel is located in Chambolle-Musigny, a small village in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits wine region. It’s surrounded by some of France’s most celebrated vineyards. It’s a wonderful location for exploring the region, particularly if, like us, you enjoy spending your days discovering little villages, visiting wineries and finding wonderful places to eat.

Bellevigne itself is housed in a beautifully restored historic property, with 37 rooms, a restaurant, wine cellar and spa. It’s exactly the sort of hotel I imagine when I think of escaping to the French countryside. It has gorgeous interiors that feel elegant and thoughtfully put together without being overly formal.

The Rooms: French Countryside Perfection

I could probably write an entire article about how much I love the rooms at Bellevigne. They are absolutely gorgeous, with that perfect combination of traditional French country charm and beautiful contemporary design. Everything feels warm, inviting and incredibly comfortable.

On both visits, we booked a Cozy room. During our first stay, we were kindly upgraded to a Signature room, which was beautiful, but this time we stayed in the Cozy room we’d originally booked. And I have to say, I loved both.

The Signature rooms are a little larger, but I don’t think you need to upgrade to have a wonderful experience here. Our Cozy room was just as charming and perfectly comfortable for the two of us.

And can we talk about the beds? I am not exaggerating when I say that Bellevigne has some of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. The bedding is wonderful, and the mattress is heavenly. I have seriously considered returning just for the possibility of having the best night’s sleep of my life.

The bathrooms are equally beautiful, although I do have one small complaint. I’m not a huge fan of having to shower in a bathtub while holding the showerhead, which was the setup in our room. It’s not particularly practical, but I will admit that the bathtub itself is gorgeous and perfect for a long, romantic soak. So perhaps it’s just a matter of deciding whether you’re in the mood for a quick shower or a leisurely bath!

A Breakfast Worth Getting Out of Bed For

One of the biggest improvements between our first and second visits was breakfast, and for me, it made a real difference.

During our first stay, the staff served breakfast directly to the table. While I appreciate the idea behind this type of service, it wasn’t particularly practical. They brought us things we didn’t really want, while there were other things we would happily have had more of.

I’m delighted to say that they’ve completely changed the experience, and breakfast is now a wonderful buffet.

The selection was fantastic, with plenty to choose from, and I loved being able to take exactly what I wanted and go back for more of my favourites. It was a much more relaxed and enjoyable way to start the morning, particularly when you’re staying somewhere as lovely as Bellevigne and aren’t in any hurry to leave.

For me, a really good hotel breakfast is such an important part of the experience, and this one absolutely delivered.

A Hotel That’s Found Its Feet

Beyond the rooms and breakfast, what really stood out during our second visit was how much more established the hotel felt.

When we first stayed, Bellevigne had only been open for a matter of days, so naturally there were a few things that weren’t quite running smoothly. This time, everything felt much more relaxed and comfortable.

It was particularly lovely to see some familiar faces among the staff from our first visit. Everyone seemed more at ease, and there was a warmth to the atmosphere that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

The property itself was just as beautiful as I remembered, but now the experience really lives up to the surroundings.

The Spa and Restaurant: Two Reasons to Return

Another exciting development since our first visit is that the hotel’s spa is now open. The Spa des Tannins includes a sauna, hammam, treatments and relaxation facilities, along with a heated outdoor swimming pool.

Unfortunately, we were only staying for one night this time, so we didn’t have a chance to experience it ourselves. It’s definitely on my list for our next visit. In the meantime, if a proper spa weekend is what you’re after, Bollants Spa im Park in Germany is one of my favourite wellness escapes, just 2.5 hours from Luxembourg.

We also decided to skip dinner at Bellevigne on this occasion. We had eaten at the hotel restaurant during our first stay and, although it was perfectly fine, we weren’t particularly impressed at the time.

However, given how much everything else has improved, I would absolutely be willing to give the restaurant another try. In fact, I think that’s exactly what we’ll do next time.

Instead, we discovered a fantastic restaurant nearby, Les Murisaltiens, which deserves an article of its own. I’ll be sharing more about that experience soon because it was one of the highlights of our latest Burgundy trip.

One Small Complaint: The Parking

There is one thing I was a little disappointed to discover during our second visit, and that’s the introduction of paid parking.

Bellevigne now charges €12 per night to use its private parking area, which I find a little unnecessary for a hotel in a small countryside village.

The good news is that there’s a public parking area by the church immediately next to the hotel’s parking lot, and when we visited, we were able to park there for free. It’s quite literally attached to the hotel parking area, and there’s even a gate leading directly into the hotel grounds from the church parking lot.

Of course, public parking availability can change, but it’s worth checking before paying for the hotel’s private parking.

It’s a small criticism, and certainly not something that would stop me from returning, but I do think it’s useful to know before you arrive.

My Bellevigne Hotel Review: Would I Stay Again?

Absolutely, and I already know I will. Burgundy is one of those places we return to again and again, and I’m always looking for beautiful places to stay while we’re exploring the region. Bellevigne has now firmly earned a place among my favourites.

I love the location, the gorgeous rooms, the incredibly comfortable beds and the relaxed atmosphere. And now that breakfast has been perfected and the spa is open, there are even more reasons to spend a little longer here.

If you’re planning a romantic weekend in Burgundy, a wine-tasting trip or simply want to escape somewhere beautiful for a couple of days, I really can’t recommend Bellevigne enough.

Just make sure you leave yourself enough time to enjoy those beds. Trust me, you won’t want to get up.

Bellevigne Hotel: FAQ

Where is Bellevigne located?

Bellevigne is located at 7 Rue de l’Église in Chambolle-Musigny, a charming wine village in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits region, between Dijon and Beaune. It’s a lovely base for exploring the Route des Grands Crus and the surrounding vineyards.

What is the difference between the Cozy and Signature rooms?

The Cozy rooms measure approximately 19 m², while the Signature rooms are larger at approximately 24 m². I’ve stayed in both and found them equally beautiful and comfortable. Unless you particularly want the extra space, I think the Cozy rooms are a wonderful choice.

Does Bellevigne have a spa?

Yes. The Spa des Tannins offers a sauna, hammam, sensory shower and treatments, and the hotel also has a heated outdoor swimming pool. I haven’t tried the spa yet, but I’m looking forward to experiencing it on my next visit.

Is parking free at Bellevigne?

The hotel’s private parking costs €12 per night. During our visit, we parked for free in the adjacent church parking area, which has direct access to the hotel grounds. Check local parking signs and availability when you arrive.

Editor's Note

I loved Bellevigne from the moment I first walked through its doors, but returning for a second stay made me appreciate it even more. It’s one of those hotels I find myself thinking about long after I’ve checked out, especially those incredibly comfortable beds!
